Jack's Tracks

Mouth Bandits

Mouth Bandits produced an awesome blend of quirky music and audio theatre in the 1980s and 90s. They were like a cross between Tom Waits and Steely Dan, with a few ounces of Monty Python just for fun.

They thought I looked like Larry Carlton, so I got invited to lay down various tracks over the course of several Mouth Bandits albums. Here are some of those.

Bureaucracy

Bureaucracy

This song was written by Bruce Buckingham and Craig Johnson, the mad scientists behind Mouth Bandits. I contributed several different guitar tracks, including the solos, and electric bass guitar on this track. Written and recorded in the mid 1990s, I love the lyrics' thematic cynicism. But it seems funnier now: there's no mention of email.

For This Love

For This Love

A track by the Mouth Bandits, the Steely Dan of Champaign-Urbana on acid. I'm the nice clean guitar tracks buried under many other layers of heaviness. Guys! This started out so tender, wow.

Product

Product

More Mouth Bandits beauty. This is one of my favorite tracks on that album...called Product. These guys should have gotten paid for this stuff. Then they could have paid me! I play fretted electric bass on this track, while Bruce Buckingham kicks it hard on guitar. Nice stuff Bruce!

New World Order

New World Order

Mouth Bandits kicked up a wall of sound when they felt like it. I played bass guitar on this one, while Bruce Buckingham put the hammer down on guitar.
